Jeff Gordon said during a break from Tuesday’s Sprint Cup test at Pocono Raceway that he believes Busch may harbor some bitterness toward his former organization, which let Busch go to make room for Dale Earnhardt Jr. to join the team in 2008.
“I think that you look at the situation and there was going to be one person that was the odd man out, and we chose him, and I’m sure he questioned why would we choose him,” said Gordon, who ended up finishing a spot behind Busch in fourth. “We all know how talented he is and how fast he went and how he won races, so obviously there’s a reason why he was the odd man out, and I’m sure that he probably does have some bitterness towards that. But look at the situation that he’s in: Shoot, I feel like we did him a favor.”
